Stress Management Parenting

Posted on 09-29-2016

Stress has to be one of the most potent forces on earth. It affects virtually everything in our bodies and everything we do, including parenting, and virtually everyone has it. Very bad.

An article from Romper offers nine ways parents are affected by stress.

When we’re stressed, we are likely to spend less time with our kids since we’re constantly thinking about the thing that is stressing us. Stressed parents become snappy or disengaged with their children, which can make kids feel guilty or stressed themselves.

What can we do, though, when our lives are so busy and complicated?

Take a deep breath. Everything will be okay. Remind yourself of the blessings in your life and jot down a few things you’re thankful for.

Laugh. (No, we’re not joking.) Research suggests a good laugh is healthy for the body, for relieving stress and clearing the mind.

Sing. This sounds crazy too, but singing actually changes the way your brain handles stress. It releases endorphins and relieves anxiety.

We know these aren’t perfect, awe-inspiring stress removers, but perhaps singing in the car or laughing on the phone with an old friend will help you accomplish what you need to do while also relieving a stress. It’s a win-win.
